History of C.F. Casella & Co. LTD.

The History of C.F. Casella & Co. started in 1798 when Caesaer Tagliabue estabilished a company in Holton, in 1820 he moved to no. 23 Hatton Garden in London.

In 1838 Tagliabue took his son-in-law, Louis Paschal Casella into partnership. Tagliabue's company changed his name in "Tagliabue and Casella". Tagliabue and Casella was a company which made barometer. 


When Caesaer Tagliabue died in 1844, Casella took over the running of the firm, buying out his sister-in-law's interests in 1845. Three years later the "Tagliabue and Casella" became Louis Casella and Co

Casella published a catalogue of available instruments with really accurate illustrations and an accurate explaination, this catalogue is findable here http://www.sil.si.edu/DigitalCollections/trade-literature/scientific-instruments/files/51601/index.htm and it was from early 1860.




By the 1860 Casella sold many kind of instruments: thermometers, hydrometers, drawing and surveying instruments, meterological instruments and even accesories for photography, in those years phography was being perfectioned and Casella was an innovative company who understood the importance of innovation. 
Some instruments were made by other people like R.W. Munro and Thomas Cooke and then engraved with Casella's name. 




In 1872 Casella moved the firm from Hatton Garden to Holborn Bars. When the company moved his two sons, Louis Marino Casella and Charles Frederick Casella were working for the company.
After Louis's death in 1897 his son Charles took control of the company and renaming it in "C.F. Casella" . 
By the 1905 when the lease for Holborn expired the affairs were in a poor state, the company moved to Westminster.. Thanks to Rowland Miall and Robert Abraham the three achieved a transformation in the business. In 1910 "C.F. Casella" became "C.F. Casella & Co Ltd" , one year later they release a catalogue "Surveying and Drawing Instruments",1911. 
1912, the Company moved  to South London and launch a succesful range of instruments. 
1916, Charles Frederick Casella died. 
1918, the Casella Company absorbed some of the production capacity of Gilson
